        About this Steam experiment

Learned from the Steam Game Ownership and User Friendships dataset. The snapshot was published in April 2024 and includes early-2024 games such as Helldivers 2 and Palworld. Its exact collection cutoff is undocumented; this is not a live Steam catalog.

Games played for at least 30 minutes provide evidence of interest. Unplayed purchases do not count as dislikes. We compare binary play history with capped playtime weighting, select on held-out recommendations, and train compact similarity factors. Playtime is an imperfect proxy for enjoyment. Search includes games with at least 50 retained players.

The five closest liked games add similarity weights and the five closest disliked games subtract theirs. Scores are weighted sums, not star predictions or percentages. Expand a result to see its contributing likes. Every game you enter is excluded; browse up to 500 recommendations. Likes and dislikes stay in your browser, separate from Movie Night and TV Night.

The dataset samples public profiles through friend networks, so it is not representative of all players. It does not contain explicit dislikes. Short games and recent releases may have weaker coverage. This independent experiment is not affiliated with Valve. Training and validation · Dataset credits and license · Source code
